Ranthambore National Park is one of India’s most premier Tiger Reserve, famed for its majestic Royal Bengal tigers and dramatic landscapes. Ancient ruins, lakes, dry deciduous forests and rocky hills create a striking backdrop for wildlife encounters. Beyond tigers, the park is home to leopards, sloth bears, sambar, chital, crocodiles and an impressive variety of birds.
The story of Ranthambore is woven with Rajput valour, ancient kingdoms and centuries of struggle. At its heart stands the magnificent Ranthambore Fort, believed to have been built in the 10th century by the Chauhan rulers. Rising dramatically above the forests, the fort became a formidable stronghold and witnessed battles between Rajput kings and powerful rulers, including the armies of the Delhi Sultanate.
Ranthambore’s most famous chapter is linked to Rana Hammir Dev Chauhan, whose resistance against Sultan Alauddin Khalji in the 14th century became a symbol of Rajput courage and defiance. The fort eventually changed hands many times, passing through the control of the Delhi Sultanate, Mewar and later the Mughals.
Today, the ruined fort, ancient temples and stone gateways stand amidst the tiger-filled forests—a remarkable meeting of history, legend and wilderness.
