Dhikala Zone is the legendary heart of Jim Corbett National Park, renowned for its vast grasslands, magnificent Sal forests, riverine landscapes and exceptional wildlife. Deep within the core area, the zone offers some of Corbett’s most immersive safari experiences, with frequent sightings of elephants, chital, sambar, wild boar and an extraordinary variety of birds. The Dhikala Zone has five Forest Rest Houses (FRHs), each offering a different setting within this remarkable wilderness. For our safari programme, we specifically reserve Dhikala Main FRH and Gairal FRH. Dhikala Main overlooks the spectacular grasslands and the Ramganga landscape, while Gairal, located amidst Sal forest closer to the river, offers a more secluded wilderness atmosphere. Staying at these two historic forest outposts allows guests to experience the finest landscapes and wildlife habitats that the Dhikala Zone has to offer.
A defining chapter in Dhikala’s history was written in 1973, when Project Tiger, India’s pioneering tiger conservation programme, was launched at Corbett. Since then, Dhikala has evolved into one of India’s most celebrated wilderness landscapes, where vast grasslands, ancient Sal forests and the Ramganga River come together to create an extraordinary habitat for wildlife.

From the gate, the journey continues deep into the heart of the forest, following a scenic 30-kilometre route to the iconic Dhikala Forest Rest House. The drive itself is an exciting introduction to Corbett, with opportunities to encounter herds of elephants, spotted deer, wild boar, numerous bird species—and, with luck, even the elusive tiger.
After check-in and lunch, it is time for your first safari into the legendary wilderness of Corbett National Park. Explore a landscape of riverine forests, expansive grasslands and the tranquil reaches of the Ramganga River, alive with an extraordinary diversity of birds and mammals. Keep your senses alert for the trumpet of elephants, the alarm calls of deer and the distant roar that signals the presence of a tiger. Return to the Forest Rest House after an exhilarating afternoon in the wild, unwind over tea and soak in the atmosphere of Dhikala as the forest settles into evening. Dinner and a restful night follow.
Begin the morning with an early cup of tea before heading out for your second safari. As the forest awakens, explore the expansive grasslands, the dense Sal forests or perhaps the legendary Sambar Road. The exact route will be decided by our expert naturalist and driver, based on recent wildlife activity, forest conditions and the best opportunities for sightings.
Return to the Forest Rest House for a hearty breakfast and some time to relax. After lunch, set out once again for your third safari, this time perhaps venturing towards the renowned Paar area in search of Corbett’s magnificent wildlife. Every drive unfolds differently, with the possibility of elephants, deer, birds and, if fortune favours, the elusive tiger. Return to Dhikala after an exhilarating afternoon in the wilderness. Enjoy a leisurely cup of tea, unwind amidst the forest, followed by dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.

Venture through Corbett’s expansive grasslands and the majestic Mota Sal area, where the changing light and awakening forest create the perfect setting for wildlife encounters. The route will be chosen by our expert naturalist and driver, guided by recent sightings, animal movement and the conditions of the forest.
Return to the Forest Rest House for a quick breakfast and some well-earned time to relax. After lunch, set out once again for your fifth safari, perhaps exploring the renowned Kamarpatta Road and Ram Singh Road. Each drive offers a fresh perspective of Corbett, with opportunities to encounter its rich variety of mammals and birds. Return to the FRH after another rewarding safari, unwind over tea and enjoy the serenity of Dhikala. Dinner and a restful night follow.

Return to the Forest Rest House for a quick breakfast before checking out at a leisurely pace. The journey then winds back through the forest towards the Dhangari Gate, offering a final chance to take in the sights and sounds of the reserve. Continue onwards to Ramnagar, where your Corbett safari concludes with a drop-off, carrying with you the memories of an unforgettable journey through one of India’s most celebrated wildernesses.
