The Northern lights tour is about the Aurora Borealis, the Santa village, reindeers and huskies. It is that fairy tale which every child dreamt of and here we are to make every dream come true. Aurora borealis derives their name from the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek god of the north wind, Boreas. They manifest within the aurora zone, encircling the Earth’s North Pole and spanning regions including Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Alaska, and Siberia. Culturally, indigenous tribes such as the Eskimos and Cree Indians imbue the Northern Lights with spiritual significance, viewing them as conduits for communication with ancestors or symbols of the circle of life. Dogs barking at the lights were believed to recognize lost companions, reflecting the deep cultural resonance of this celestial spectacle. The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, are luminous phenomena characterized by swirling curtains of light in the night sky, spanning a spectrum from green to pink and scarlet. Originating around 50 to 150 miles above the Earth’s surface, they result from solar particles interacting with gases in the atmosphere, predominantly around the North Pole. Coronal mass ejections from the Sun, akin to a colossal sneeze expelling charged particles, contribute to the most spectacular displays. The colours of the auroras stem from the energized nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the atmosphere. Oxygen atoms emit green light, while nitrogen atoms emit hues of purple, blue, and pink, though less frequently observed due to the higher energy requirement. Scarlet auroras occur when oxygen is energized at very high altitudes. The intensity and extent of auroras correlate with the magnitude of coronal mass ejections. Larger ejections widen the area around the poles where particles interact with the atmosphere, sometimes extending auroras to lower latitudes. Notably, enhanced aurora activity is often observed during equinoxes, attributed to heightened magnetic storms.
